Super nanny, Jo Frost, has been helping parents become the boss for several years now. She definitely can keep parents from collapsing under a mountain of guilt every time their kids throw a tantrum and she can get kids to listen. So how to you stop your child from whining? Jo responds in People Magazine by saying there are two kinds of whining. The first is a persistent drip of please, please, please. She says to tell your kids to just stop asking and ignore the rest. Eventually they will stop when they see they are getting no response. The second kind of whining is when kids are hungry, thirsty, tired or all of the above. Often they will whine with exaggerated demands. She says to copy them so they can hear how they sound. Kids will most likely collapse in giggles when they see your animated behavior. After you've jollied them up, ask them to make their requests in a normal tone of voice so they can be understood. You can get more great tips from Jo in her book 'Ask Supernanny: What Every Parent Wants to Know'.
